What if you're not broken? What if you're just depleted?
On this Wisdom Wednesday, Nyomi Banks sits down with psychologist Dr. Matthew Campbell, PhD, creator of the Primal Five framework, to talk about the five basic needs modern life has quietly stripped away from almost all of us, and why fixing yourself might be the wrong goal entirely.
Our world has changed, but our bodies have not. In more than 20 years of practice, Dr. Campbell kept seeing the same thing: people working hard on their pain while the fundamentals that give them capacity came last. Together, Nyomi and Dr. Campbell talk about what depletion really feels like day to day, why the idea of "earning" rest is the trap, and how to begin with one small shift instead of chasing perfection.
In this episode:
• The Primal Five: sunlight, sleep, movement, meaningful connection, and consumption (what you eat and what you feed your mind)
• The signs of depletion before burnout: always tired, caffeine all day, irritability, isolating, everything feeling effortful
• Why meaningful connection is the most overlooked need, and what it means when "the person is the end"
• Resting because your body needs it vs. resting because you think you earned it
• One easy place to start: take your morning coffee or tea outside for 15 to 30 minutes of sunlight

"I Know Better, So I Do Better": Emotional Intelligence in Action (With Dr. Will Washington)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Understanding something intellectually is one thing. Catching yourself before you react the old way is where the real work shows.
Dr. Will Washington is back on The Season of Self Love! In this Mindset Monday conversation, we pick up where we left off on emotional intelligence and ask what actually happens in the gap between feeling an old impulse and choosing to respond differently. Dr. Will, a licensed therapist, speaker, and longtime friend of the show, breaks down the survival instincts behind that moment, the idea that we each have a biological age, an emotional age, and a spiritual age (and that it matters which one is speaking up), and why emotional intelligence is about awareness, not just articulation. We talk about "rupture and repair," how to set boundaries as "if-then" statements instead of waiting for people to guess your triggers, why consideration is a love language, and why attachment and connection are not the same thing. Along the way, you'll hear both of us get real about what it looks like when the unhealed version of us shows up, and how to honor that moment without being run by it.
We talk about:
• What's happening in the gap between an old impulse and a new choice
• Biological age, emotional age, and spiritual age: which one is speaking up in this moment?
• Why emotional intelligence is a spectrum of awareness, and how it differs from emotional articulation
• Why caregivers (and anyone who loves someone through a hard season) often write themselves out of their own story
• How to tell when something is "heavy," and listening to what your body is telling you
• Rupture and repair: owning your part, and deciding together whether to continue or let a lesson be a lesson
• Why triggers are often unresolved work and not proof that someone caused harm
• Boundaries as "if-then" statements: it's not other people's job to know your triggers, it's yours
• Consideration as a love language
• Attachment vs. connection
• Why delivery matters, and sharing space for repair when it doesn't land
• Healing as a lifestyle, not a destination: "Heal always"
If you've ever done the work, understood the pattern, and still felt the old version of you rise up, this episode is about what to do in that exact moment.
A Gentle Invitation From This Episode
This week, you're invited to notice one moment when you feel the old impulse rising. Pause. You don't have to do it perfectly. Just notice it and catch it before it catches you.
In This Episode
• Welcome back, Dr. Will — what he's been working on, including a talk at Oxford on mind and music and a men's group called Brothers Healing Brothers in Cleveland
• Guided meditation — "I can pause. I can breathe. I can choose."
• The gap between impulse and choice — survival instincts and what feels unsafe
• Which age is speaking? — biological, emotional, and spiritual
• Awareness vs. articulation — emotional intelligence in action
• When your body says "this is heavy"
• "I know better, so I do better" — and why it isn't about thinking you're better than anyone
• Rupture and repair — what they are and how to do them
• Honoring your peace — sometimes you have to disrupt the peace to honor your peace
• Boundaries as "if-then" statements — and consideration as a love language
• Triggers and blind spots — when it's about unresolved work
• Attachment vs. connection
• Delivery, harm, and repair
• Closing reflection — the pause is where your power lives
• Dr. Will's closing words — "Be kind to yourself and heal always."
About Dr. Will Washington
Dr. Will Washington is a licensed therapist with nearly 15 years of experience, a speaker, and the voice behind the "Heal Always" philosophy that has shaped much of this show. He recently spoke at Oxford University on mind and music (using music in therapeutic healing) and leads "Brothers Healing Brothers," experiential groups for men in the Cleveland area. His work with the Washington Wellness Institute focuses on modernizing how we take mental illness into holistic wellness and making healing a lifestyle. He's also part of a live-streamed show with another therapist on his YouTube channel.

Boundaries Start With Internal Safety: Stop Over-Giving and Learn to Have Your Own Back (With Bar...
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
What if the thing that finally changes your boundaries isn't another tool or another insight, but learning to feel safe inside your own life?
This week on Wisdom Wednesday, I'm joined by Barb Nangle, a boundaries coach, speaker, author, and host of the Fragmented to Whole podcast. After nearly 40 years of therapy and personal development, Barb entered 12-step recovery at 52 and discovered that her real issue was never a lack of insight. It was a lack of internal safety. She helps professional women stop over-giving and start building the internal system that makes real boundaries possible. We talk about why boundaries are the antidote to codependency, what "internal safety" actually means (hint: it isn't feeling calm all the time), and how to tell the difference between the discomfort of dysfunction and the discomfort of growth. We also get into why guilt shows up when you set a boundary, why "being the helper" can become an identity, and one small thing you can try today to start building internal safety, no one else's cooperation required.
We talk about:
• What internal safety is, and what it isn't: not constant calm, but not letting someone else's upset stop you from holding your boundary
• Boundaries as the antidote to codependency
• The discomfort of dysfunction (familiar and draining) vs. the discomfort of growth (new, temporary, and healing)
• Why guilt after setting a boundary is proportional to how much you've been abandoning yourself
• How "helper, fixer, rescuer" can become an identity, and why stepping out of that role feels like breaking the rules
• Why we look for safety in other people's approval, and why the real path to safety is internal
• Telling yourself the truth when someone's upset with you: "I'm not a bad person. I haven't done anything wrong. I'm not in trouble."
• Becoming emotionally available to yourself first, and how that changed the way Barb relates to others
• A small step you can try today: boundaries with your own thoughts, and "changing the channel"
• Collecting evidence that you can do the new thing and be okay
If you're an over-giver, a people pleaser, or someone who feels guilty every time you say no, this conversation offers a gentler way in.
In This Episode
• Guided meditation — "You are allowed to feel safe inside your own life."
• Meet Barb Nangle — boundaries coach, speaker, author, and podcast host
• What changed after 40 years of personal development — recovery, codependency, and a new view of boundaries
• Internal safety explained — and what it isn't
• Two kinds of discomfort — dysfunction vs. growth
• How Barb realized she was codependent
• Why guilt shows up — and what it has to do with abandoning yourself
• Why we feel the need to rescue — and where that begins
• Telling yourself something different — the self-talk that builds internal safety
• Becoming emotionally available to yourself — and how it changes relationships
• One small thing to try today — boundaries with yourself and changing the channel
• Where to find Barb — free Internal Safety Resource Pack and a holiday boundaries workshop

Emotional Intelligence: The Language Nobody Taught You (And How It Becomes Your Boundaries)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
For years, I thought emotional intelligence meant managing your feelings: staying calm, staying in control. What I'm learning is almost the opposite. Emotional intelligence is understanding what you're feeling so deeply that you can make choices that honor both yourself and the people you love.
In this Mindset Monday episode, I'm sitting down with you to talk about what that looks like in real life. I share a season of caregiving for a parent with dementia as one example of what changed when I stopped trying to fix or save someone and started learning to be present with them, and with myself. We talk about why nobody teaches us this language, why we're taught to suppress, push through, and "not feel too deeply," and how the feelings we try to manage often have something important to tell us: grief says something matters, frustration says we're trying to control what we can't, helplessness says we can't save someone but we can be with them. From there, we bridge to boundaries: the real kind, not walls or punishments, but the ability to say, "I hear you, and I also hear myself, and I'm not going to abandon myself to save you."
We talk about:
• What emotional intelligence actually is: feeling without judgment, understanding what the feeling is telling you, and choosing in a way that honors you and the people you care about
• Why we're taught to control and suppress feelings, and why that's the opposite of emotional intelligence
• What grief, frustration, and helplessness can be trying to tell you
• Moving from trying to fix or save someone to protecting, being present, and prioritizing your own wellbeing
• How using The Four Agreements as a daily anchor helped with communication and compassion
• Why "managing someone else's emotions" leaves us exhausted and resentful
• How emotional intelligence becomes the foundation for real boundaries
• Staying grounded in the moment when someone challenges you: you don't have to argue to protect yourself
• What self-love really is: not just affirmations and bubble baths, but understanding what you feel and choosing accordingly
If you're exhausted from trying to make someone else okay so you can feel okay, this episode is for you.
A Gentle Invitation From This Episode
This week, you're invited to notice one relationship, whether it's a partner, a family member, or a friend. Where are you trying to manage their emotions instead of understanding your own? What are you feeling, and what is that feeling telling you?
In This Episode
• Opening — redefining emotional intelligence
• Grounding practice — "You don't have to understand your feelings to honor them."
• A real-life example — caregiving, frustration, and the shift from fixing to being present
• What emotional intelligence actually is — and why nobody teaches it
• Using the Four Agreements as an anchor — in communication, compassion, and not taking things personally
• What grief, frustration, and helplessness are telling you
• The bridge to boundaries — why managing other people's feelings leads to resentment
• Choosing not to argue — grounding yourself in a challenging conversation
• Real-life application — checking in with yourself before and during connection
• What self-love really is
• Closing affirmations — "I can feel deeply and still protect myself."
• What's next — a worksheet on the new Substack, and a Wednesday conversation about boundaries

Healing Heartbreak and Betrayal in the Body: Why Understanding Isn't the Same as Healing (With Be...
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Understanding your wounds is not the same as healing them. You can know exactly why you keep going back to someone who isn't right for you and still feel powerless to stop.
This week on Wisdom Wednesday, I'm joined by Ben Ufana, a neurosomatic breathwork facilitator and meditation teacher who has spent nearly a decade helping people heal from breakups, divorce, abandonment, rejection, and ghosting. Ben trained for 17 years in the internal martial arts, apprenticed with a traditional Kiowa medicine man, and has spent decades studying how the body holds what the mind can't always explain. He shares the story behind the breath-and-awareness practice he developed out of his own childhood and relational wounding, and walks us through how it works: bringing a person and the dynamic between you into your awareness, noticing where the emotion lives in your body, and breathing with it until it moves. We talk about why we can't work with what we aren't feeling, how numbing and suppressing keep us stuck in repeating patterns, why denying a painful feeling is a form of rejecting ourselves, and why this practice is a deep form of self-love. Ben also shares how these tools can be used in the middle of real life, with your eyes open, in conversation with someone you love.
We talk about:
• Why understanding a wound intellectually is important but not the same as healing it
• How heartbreak often reaches back to much older wounds, and why we repeat the same relational patterns
• The body as a place where grief, hurt, anger, and betrayal are stored
• A guided look at Ben's practice: bring the person into awareness, notice the emotion, locate it in the body, and breathe into it
• How emotions often intensify, shift, and move through a progression before they release
• Why avoiding our emotions means rejecting parts of ourselves, and how feeling them is a form of honesty and self-love
• Using the practice with your eyes open: in conversation, with a loved one, or even with a pet
• A note on boundaries: respecting someone else's "no" when you're working with desire
• Why body work, grounding practices, and skilled support can make this work safer and deeper
• How stress and unprocessed emotion build up in the body, and why staying fluid keeps us growing
This conversation is for anyone who has done the thinking, understood the pattern, and is ready to feel their way through it. If you are severely traumatized, Ben notes that working with a psychotherapist or experienced guide can help you build a strong enough foundation.
In This Episode
• Opening — understanding your wounds vs. healing them
• Meet Ben Ufana — breathwork facilitator, meditation teacher, and lifelong student of how the body holds emotion
• Ben's story — from a young fascination with Native American healing traditions, to apprenticing with a Kiowa medicine man, to developing his own practice from his own heartbreak
• Why numbing keeps us stuck — and why "you can't heal what you don't feel"
• The practice, step by step — person and dynamic in awareness, emotion, location in the body, breath
• What to expect — emotions that intensify, move, and progress toward acceptance and letting go
• Honesty and self-love — why feeling your authentic responses means being present with the parts of you that are hurting
• Practicing in real life — with eyes open, in conversation, with loved ones
• Patterns and reenactment — why we keep attracting the same relationships, and how healing shifts that over time
• Support and tools — body work, Ayurveda, acupuncture, skilled healers, and internal martial arts
• Stagnation and fluidity — how stress accumulates in the body and how practice keeps us growing
• Where to find Ben

Direction Over Expansion: Building UP, Not OUT (A Pivot Isn't a Setback)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
After my 54th birthday, I made a decision that looked like stepping back. I pushed Ask Nyomi: Bridging the Gap to 2027. Not because I don't want to do it, but because I was being pulled in too many directions and running on desperation instead of direction.
In this Mindset Monday episode, I'm sitting down with you to talk about the difference between moving out and moving up. A short conversation with Dr. Will Washington shifted my whole perspective: don't look outside for opportunities to strengthen your worth. Build up what you already have. I share what it looked like to come home from the Revival in Atlanta feeling more at home than I had in a long time, then open my calendar to a full slate of good, worthy things, and what changed when I stopped trying to do them all at once. We talk about why a pivot is a strategy and not a setback, why frantic energy is something people can feel, and why completion doesn't mean doing everything. It means doing what completes the cycle. I also share what's next for Season 6 and a new Substack with downloadable Mindset Monday actions.
We talk about:
• Why limiting your direction is not the same as limiting your power
• Moving out (scattered, frantic, trying to prove your value) vs. moving up (focused, strategic, building mastery)
• Why a pivot can be the strategy, not a step backward: the goal hasn't changed, only the strategy
• How desperation and direction feel different, to you and to the people around you
• Why doing less with your whole self can be the power move
• Why I'm pouring into The Season of Self Love this season
• A new Substack with downloadable Mindset Monday prompts and actions
If your calendar is full of good things and you're feeling pulled in every direction, this one is for you.
A Gentle Invitation From This Episode
This week, you're invited to ask yourself: Where am I being called to pivot? Where am I forcing my way through when I could change position and find another opening? And what would it look like to build up instead of out?
In This Episode
• Opening — turning 54, the number 9, and a year of completion
• Grounding practice — "You can be ambitious and strategic. Your direction is a power move."
• The Revival in Atlanta — feeling at home, then looking at a full calendar
• A conversation with Dr. Will — "Build up in what you have, not out."
• Moving out vs. moving up
• Why Ask Nyomi: Bridging the Gap is moving to 2027 — same goal, new strategy
• Desperation vs. direction — and the energy people can feel
• Closing affirmations — "A pivot is not a setback. It's the strategy."
• What's next — the new Substack, Season 6 focus, and why self-love comes first
• Reminder — Souls premieres October 22 on Tubi

Reclaiming Your Story: The Real Reason Manifestation Isn't Working (With Kelsey Aida)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
What if the real reason manifestation isn't working has nothing to do with doing it wrong, and everything to do with a part of you that doesn't feel safe receiving what you're asking for?
This week, I'm joined by Kelsey Aida, energetic alignment coach, best-selling author, and co-host of the High Vibing It podcast. Kelsey focuses on the missing piece in manifestation that most people don't talk about: resistance, and how self-love is often the real doorway to change. We talk about reclaiming your story after an identity-shaking loss (Kelsey's path began with a dance-ending injury and a long dark night of the soul), why the "newness" of who you're becoming can feel dangerous to your subconscious, and why self-sabotage is really misguided self-love. We also get into feeling your feelings in your body instead of thinking about them, the difference between toxic positivity and true alignment, how to tell intuition from fear, and what it looks like to love the parts of yourself you've been rejecting. I even had a healing moment live on air, and I think you might too.
We talk about:
• What "reclaiming your story" means in the context of manifestation and alignment
• How contrast, loss, and rock-bottom moments can become a stepping-off point instead of proof you're not enough
• Why the fear of the unknown is often really a fear of not belonging, and why "it's safe to be me" is a powerful reminder
• Resistance explained without shame: the "but" attached to what you want, and how to listen for it
• Why self-sabotage is misguided self-love, and how to have a loving conversation with the part of you that's scared
• Feeling your feelings somatically (in the body) instead of thinking about them, and letting emotion move like a wave
• Alignment vs. toxic positivity: why being authentic matters more than being positive all the time
• What self-love looks like when you're anxious or feeling unworthy: making your own well-being important to you
• Getting curious about anxiety, sadness, and other parts of you you've rejected, and thanking them for trying to protect you
• Intuition vs. fear: "Fear screams, intuition whispers"
• A deathbed "future pacing" exercise for big decisions
If you've ever wanted something good and found yourself pulling away right when it arrived, this conversation offers a gentler way to understand it.
In This Episode

What's Really Blocking Your Manifestation? It's Not What You Think
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
You've visualized it, affirmed it, and put it on the vision board. You're asking for the relationship, but you're still single. You're declaring abundance, but you feel blocked. And you're wondering what you're doing wrong.
In this Mindset Monday episode, I'm sitting down with you to talk about the part of manifestation nobody puts in the course: resistance. What if it isn't a personal failure or proof that you're not believing hard enough? What if it's a part of you that doesn't feel safe receiving yet, and is trying to protect you? I share how I used to shame myself for "blocking" my own progress, how a big fear about taxes once held me back when I was making more money, and what changed when I got curious instead of critical. We also talk about the big "but" that hides inside what we say we want, and why you don't have to become someone else to receive it. You just have to trust who you already are.
We talk about:
• Why manifestation can stall even when you're doing "everything right"
• Resistance as protection, not a flaw: a part of you asking, "Are we safe? Are we ready?"
• Why shaming yourself for being "in your own way" only makes it heavier
• The big "but" attached to what you want: money, but...; relationship, but...; visibility, but...
• What happens when half of you moves forward and the other half holds back
• Getting curious: what is this resistance protecting me from?
• Day 29 of the birthday manifestation countdown: "I manifest complete trust in the person I have become."
If you've been asking for something while quietly hoping it doesn't happen, this one is for you.
A Gentle Invitation From This Episode
This week, you're invited to notice if there's something you're asking for while also kind of hoping it doesn't happen. No fixing, no judging. Just get curious about what that part of you is trying to protect.
In This Episode
• Opening — doing all the manifesting work and still feeling blocked
• Grounding practice — "You are safe to receive."
• What nobody tells you in the manifestation courses
• Sponsor break — Washington Wellness Institute
• Resistance reframed — a part of you trying to protect you, not an enemy
• The cost of shaming it — and what changes when you get curious
• Examples of resistance — taxes, being truly seen, criticism and visibility
• The big "but" — the information hiding inside what you want
• Manifestation countdown, Day 29 — "I manifest complete trust in the person I have become."
• Closing affirmations — "I am not becoming someone else. I am becoming more of myself."
• Coming Wednesday — guest Kelsey Aida on trusting that version of yourself even when resistance shows up

What the Heck Is Self-Love Anyway? Healing Through Heartbreak and Loss (With Jonathon Aslay)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
You know how to love other people. You know how to show up for everyone else. But somewhere along the way, loving yourself became the hardest relationship of all. That's not a character flaw. Nobody ever taught you how.
This week, I'm kicking off Season 6 Wisdom Wednesdays with Jonathon Aslay, author of What the Heck Is Self-Love Anyway? and a dating and relationship coach on a mission to help both men and women fully love themselves. After a divorce, a lost career, and the loss of his 19-year-old son, Connor, in 2018, Jonathon's own grief sent him on a soul-searching journey that changed how he coaches, writes, and lives. We talk about what self-love really means, nurturing the emotional "six-year-old" inside all of us, the difference between self-love and selfishness, why dating has become a form of entertainment, how insecure attachment pulls us away from our own sovereignty, and why he believes gratitude is the highest form of love. He also shares one real action you can take today, especially if you're in the middle of heartbreak or self-doubt.
We talk about:
• What self-love is — and the one thing Jonathon would add to his book: nurturing your emotional six-year-old
• How divorce, loss, and a long season of depression became the starting point for his healing work
• Grieving with love instead of suffering, and why gratitude and acceptance became his foundation
• Taking personal ownership of your life instead of living from victim consciousness
• The line between self-love and selfishness
• Why so few of us can say why we want a relationship or what its purpose is
• Insecure attachment, and how attaching to someone in an unhealthy way can pull you away from your own sovereignty
• Loving on yourself versus fully loving yourself — and why growth is enough
• One action to start today: a fear and limiting-beliefs inventory, with forgiveness
• Reclaimed & Unashamed: reclaiming his spirituality
If you're in the middle of heartbreak, loss, or self-doubt and aren't sure where to start, this conversation offers a gentle place to begin.
In This Episode
• Guided meditation — "You don't have to earn the love you already carry inside of you."
• Meet Jonathon Aslay — author, coach, and father on a mission to help people love themselves
• Self-love, evolving — what Jonathon would add to his 2019 book
• From divorce and depression to emotional scaffolding — the personal development journey that came before loss
• What is love, really? — the questions behind the book
• Personal responsibility vs. victim consciousness
• Favorite chapters — "Speak your truth, do it with kindness" and "If it's sincere and from the heart, you can't say the wrong thing to the right person"
• Self-love vs. selfishness
• The purpose of relationships today — and why dating has become entertainment
• Attachment and sovereignty
• Grieving with love — choosing gratitude and acceptance after losing his son
• One action to start today — writing out your fears, insecurities, and limiting beliefs, forgiving yourself, and asking "Gus" (God, Universe, Spirit) how to heal
• Reclaimed & Unashamed — Jonathon's answer
• Closing thoughts — "You are worthy of love, starting with your own."

Trust What You Cannot See: Self-Love Begins With Faith in Yourself
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Season 6 is here, and Mindset Monday is back. I'm opening with something real: a few weeks ago, I taught on divine timing while still waiting on dates, confirmation, and proof that things were actually happening. Fear was loud. So I went to my altar, released it, and the very next day after that episode went live, I got the confirmation I'd been waiting for.
In this episode, I'm sitting down with you to talk about what trust actually looks like in real life. Not having it all figured out, but doing the thing anyway when you don't know yet, when fear says it won't work, and when everyone is asking "but when?" I share what happens when we don't trust ourselves (we get stuck controlling everything else, and control becomes exhausting), what shifted for me when I stopped trying to figure it out and simply showed up, and why you can love yourself while you're scared. No checklist today, just a gentle invitation to notice where you're waiting and what you'd do if you didn't need every answer first.
We talk about:
• Why real trust isn't "knowing" — it's moving forward in the "I don't know yet" space
• What happens when we don't trust ourselves: control, anxiety, being blocked, and missing the signs
• What shifted when I stopped fighting and started trusting
• Why fear gets louder when you're trying to control the outcome
• Loving yourself while you're scared
• A gentle invitation: what are you waiting on, and what would you do if you didn't need all the answers first?
• Day 22 of the birthday manifestation countdown — today's word: Trust
If you're waiting on a decision, a conversation, a dream you haven't said out loud, or a confirmation that hasn't arrived yet, this episode is for you.
In This Episode
• Opening story — teaching divine timing while still learning it, and the confirmation that arrived the next day
• Season 6 kickoff — Mindset Monday and Wisdom Wednesday are back
• Grounding practice — "You don't need to have every answer before you take the next step."
• What trust actually is — not knowing, but moving anyway
• The blocks — control, fear, anxiety, and missing the signs
• What changed — showing up, trusting the work already done, and releasing at the altar
• The "I don't know yet" place — where trust lives
• An invitation, not a checklist — noticing what you're waiting on
• Manifestation countdown, Day 22: Trust — "I manifest the courage to trust what I cannot see yet."
• Closing affirmations — "I trust myself. I am worthy of my own trust."
• Coming Wednesday — a guest on trusting the process in uncertain spaces

"Calm Confidence Isn't Weakness — It's Power, with Katherine Chestnut"
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
You look fine. You're managing, holding it all together, showing up. But inside, you're running on empty. Here's the thing — that's not a willpower problem or a mindset problem. That's a nervous system problem.
This week I'm joined by Katherine Chestnut, a mindfulness and nervous system expert who helps people who look fine on the outside but feel fried inside understand what's actually happening beneath the stress — and what to do about it. Katherine's work is grounded in breathwork, nervous system regulation, and practical wisdom — no fluff, just real tools for real life. We talk about what survival mode actually looks like when you're still functioning, why striving for perfection means we stop listening to our bodies, the difference between honoring rest and pushing through, and how calm confidence and power aren't opposites. Katherine also shares her own story with real vulnerability, and leaves us with one simple, practical action to start building calm confidence tomorrow morning.
We talk about:
• What survival mode actually looks like when you're still "managing"
• Why perfectionism disconnects us from what our bodies are telling us
• Honoring rest versus pushing through — a real example from a personal 30-day challenge
• The exchange of energy, and why grounding yourself changes the room around you
• One simple morning practice to start building calm confidence tomorrow
• Why saying no to someone else is saying yes to yourself
• Where to find Katherine's books, meditations, and teaching
If you've been functioning on fumes while looking like you have it all together, this conversation gives you real language for what's happening — and a place to start.
In This Episode
• Guided meditation — "I can be both calm and powerful. I don't have to run on empty to stay unstoppable."
• Meet Katherine Chestnut — mindfulness and nervous system expert, breathwork teacher
• What survival mode actually looks like — when you're functioning but running on fumes
• Perfectionism vs. listening to your body — honoring rest instead of pushing through
• Calm confidence explained — why it's power, not weakness, and how energy exchange works
• One practical action — feet on the floor, one breath, "what do I need today?"
• Saying no as self-love — why declining is a way of listening to your body
• Katherine's work — four books, nearly 200 meditations on Insight Timer, and weekly YouTube videos
• Closing thoughts — "Our natural state is joy"
About Katherine Chestnut

Control vs. Surrender: When Divine Timing Is Better Than Your Plan
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
This week was a lot — fresh off New York Fashion Week, deep in chocolate tempering trial and error, a movie release date looming, and fear creeping in about all of it. Then I watched three people I love achieve dreams they'd worked toward for years, and it reminded me: time is divine. Not our timing — divine timing.
In this episode, I'm teaching what happens when you stop trying to control the outcome and start trusting the timing. I get honest about trying to force my chocolate line, my movie release, and my licensing to move on my schedule — and what that control actually cost me: blocked creativity, anxiety, broken trust, exhaustion, and missed signs (including a migraine that took me out for days). I share what I witnessed watching two friends make history hosting a Caribbean-centered show at New York Fashion Week, and another friend finally become a mother after years of difficulty — all reminders that what's meant for you arrives in its own time. I close with exercises to help you find where you're gripping control, and Wednesday, Catherine Chestnut joins me to teach exactly how to put surrender into practice.
We talk about:
• Why control is an illusion — you can only control your effort, not the timing
• What trying to force outcomes actually costs: blocked creativity, anxiety, broken trust, exhaustion, missed signs
• What watching three people's dreams come true this week taught her about divine timing
• The connection to this month's Day 8 manifestation countdown theme: release
• Separating "your part" (showing up, doing the work, staying ready) from "God's part" (the timing, the outcome, the miracles)
• Exercises: naming what you're trying to force, asking how that control is working for you, and committing to your part while releasing the rest
• A preview of Wednesday's guest, Catherine Chestnut, who will teach how to put surrender into real practice
If you've been forcing a timeline, a business outcome, or an answer that isn't ready to come yet, this episode is the permission to do your part — and release the rest.
In This Episode
• Grounding practice — "Your job is to do the work. God's job is the timing."
• What this week taught her — New York Fashion Week, chocolate tempering, and a looming movie release
• Control is an illusion — what forcing outcomes actually costs
• Watching three dreams come true — a history-making fashion show and a long-awaited motherhood journey
• Manifestation countdown, Day 8: Release — "I release the version of me that survived beautifully, but was never meant to live forever"
• Exercise 1: Where are you trying to control?
• Exercise 2: Your part vs. God's part
• Coming Wednesday — Catherine Chestnut teaches how to put surrender into practice
• Closing affirmations — "I do my part with excellence. I trust divine timing more than my timeline."

Unlearning Fear: How to Rebuild Trust in Yourself (With Creative Coach Alexandra Beller)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Monday, we talked about rebuilding self-trust after betrayal, trauma, or burnout. Today, my guest shows us what that actually looks like in practice.
Alexandra Beller — dancer, choreographer, educator, and author of the upcoming book The Anatomy of Art — has spent decades helping artists and educators break free from old fear patterns and rebuild trust in themselves. In this conversation, she models this month's work in real time: the grief hidden inside every choice, the fear of "am I doing this right," and why the path back to trusting yourself has nothing to do with being the best or the most certain person in the room. If Monday gave you the teaching on rebuilding self-trust, this is what it looks like lived out — through an artist's relationship with fear, doubt, and her own creative voice. This conversation isn't just for dancers or choreographers — it's for anyone learning to trust themselves again after fear or old patterns have taken the wheel.
We talk about:
• Why every creative choice carries a small grief for the possibilities not chosen — and what that has to do with fear of the unknown
• Using neutral, curiosity-centered feedback (inspired by Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process) to rebuild trust instead of triggering doubt
• Why needing to be the "best" or most certain in the room is actually a fear pattern — and what Alexandra unlearned about it
• How non-artists can apply the same principles of unlearning fear and rebuilding trust to everyday life
• A rapid-fire lightning round on creative habits, joy, and what authenticity really means
• Reclaimed & Unashamed: what Alexandra wants to reclaim, and what she's letting go of shame around
Alexandra's book, The Anatomy of Art, is available for preorder now and releases in August.
In This Episode
• Guided meditation — "I trust my creative voice. I release perfection. I create from truth."
• Continuing Monday's teaching — rebuilding self-trust after betrayal, trauma, or burnout
• Meet Alexandra Beller — decades of work helping artists unlearn fear and rebuild trust in themselves
• The grief inside every creative choice — infinite possibilities, one decision, and the fear underneath
• Neutral, curiosity-centered feedback — rebuilding trust instead of triggering doubt
• Being witnessed, not led — unlearning the need to be the best or most certain in the room
• Applying "unlearning fear" beyond art — noticing the habitual givens in everyday life
• Lightning round — a creative habit unlearned, a joy practice, and what authenticity means
• Reclaimed & Unashamed — Alexandra's answer to the show's signature closing question
About Alexandra Beller

Rebuilding Self-Trust After Betrayal, Trauma, or Burnout
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Betrayal breaks something inside of you. So does trauma. So does burnout. All three break your ability to trust yourself — if you couldn't see the betrayal coming, how can you trust your instincts? If you burned out, what does that say about your judgment? So you stop trusting. You second-guess everything. You wait for permission. And that's when fear takes over.
In this Mindset Monday episode, I'm teaching the truth about rebuilding self-trust: it isn't your fault, your weakness, or your failure — it's information. I walk through exactly what breaks self-trust, what it costs you when it's gone, and how it gets rebuilt — not in one big moment, but through F-A-I-T-H, day by day, choice by choice. I share my own experience of rebuilding trust in myself while managing invisible challenges and building every single day, and I give you five exercises to start rebuilding your own self-trust starting today.
We talk about:
• What betrayal, trauma, and burnout actually break inside you
• The cost of lost self-trust: staying small, seeking validation, losing your voice
• Why the break wasn't your fault — and how to reframe it as information, not proof
• The F-A-I-T-H approach to rebuilding trust in yourself
• Five exercises: naming where you lost trust, writing your fear story, flipping it to a faith statement, taking one small act of self-trust, and the faith commitment
• A preview of Wednesday's guest, who will model exactly what this rebuilding looks like in real life
If you've been waiting for permission, second-guessing every choice, or doubting your own knowing since something broke your trust in yourself, this episode gives you the roadmap back.
In This Episode
• Grounding practice — "Self-trust can be built. It can be rebuilt."
• What breaks self-trust — betrayal, trauma, burnout, and what your nervous system tells you
• The cost of lost self-trust — staying small, seeking validation, losing your voice
• The truth about the break — it wasn't your fault, it was information
• Sponsor break — Washington Wellness Institute
• The F-A-I-T-H approach — how self-trust is rebuilt day by day, not all at once
• Exercise 1: Where you lost your self-trust
• Exercise 2: Naming your fear story
• Exercise 3: Flipping the fear story into a faith statement
• Exercise 4: One small act of self-trust, today
• Exercise 5: The faith commitment
• Coming Wednesday — meet Alexandra Beller, who models how she unlearned her own fear patterns and chose faith
• Closing affirmations — "I am rebuilding self-trust every single day. I am reclaimed. I am unashamed."

Nervous System First Aid While Forever Healing: Tools That Actually Work
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Monday, I told you about choosing healing ways — building a #1 podcast while managing invisible illness, explanting, and recovering. But nobody talks about what you actually do on the hard days, when your energy is depleted, your brain is foggy, and your nervous system is activated. Today I'm giving you the real tools I use — not theory, not what sounds good, but what actually got me through building while managing invisible challenges. These work for anything that drains you: illness, burnout, grief, chronic fatigue, or recovery.
I walk through four practical tools: the capacity check-in (using a simple red/yellow/green system), the daily energy audit (budgeting your energy on a 1–10 scale), adaptive creating for low-capacity days (including how and why I cut this show down from an hour to 30 minutes), and a body scan for depletion to figure out exactly where you're holding exhaustion. I also get honest about recording this very episode in pieces because of my own medium-to-low capacity day, plus lingering brain fog and vertigo from BII that I still manage.
We talk about:
• The capacity check-in: red, yellow, green, and what to create at each level
• The daily energy audit: budgeting a 1–10 scale instead of pushing through
• Adaptive creating: shorter formats, more grace, leaning on your support system
• The body scan for depletion: where you're holding exhaustion and what it needs
• Celebrating and anchoring your energy when capacity returns
• Why honoring your capacity — not pushing through it — is how you build something sustainable
If you're managing anything that drains your energy and you've been trying to push through instead of work with it, this episode gives you tools you can use today.
In This Episode
• Grounding practice — "Notice how you regulate your nervous system. Move anyway."
• The reality of building while managing — full-capacity days vs. depleted ones
• Tool 1: The Capacity Check-In — red, yellow, green, and what to create at each level
• Tool 2: The Energy Audit — budgeting your energy on a 1–10 scale
• Sponsor break — Washington Wellness Institute
• Tool 3: Adaptive Creating — grace, shorter formats, and leaning on support
• Tool 4: Body Scan for Depletion — where your body is holding exhaustion and what to ask it
• Celebrating capacity's return — anchoring what rested feels like and creating from it
• Closing affirmations — "I don't push through depletion. I work with it."

Faith While Forever Healing: How I Built a #1 Podcast Through BII Into Explant Recovery
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Four years ago, I sat at my altar at 50 years old and heard: do daily shows. My entire body said hell no. I had breast implant illness (BII) — an invisible chronic illness I didn't even know I had — draining my energy, fogging my brain, and attacking my immune system. Fear told me I was too sick, too tired, and too unbelievable to build a five-day-a-week self-love podcast. I said yes anyway.
In this episode, I'm sharing the full journey: three years of building The Season of Self Love while managing undiagnosed BII, the moment at my altar when I heard remove those implants, what explant surgery and recovery actually looked like emotionally and physically, and how the clarity that came afterward fueled The Year of the Rebirth album. And I'm sharing the news I got this week: The Season of Self Love has been ranked the #1 self-love podcast of 2026 on the Million Podcast list (https://www.millionpodcasts.com/self-love-podcasts/) — built not from a place of being fully healed, but from choosing healing ways every single day.
We talk about:
• The altar moment that launched daily shows despite undiagnosed BII
• What breast implant illness actually is and how it showed up in her body for 20+ years
• The decision to explant and what recovery — physical and emotional — really looked like
• How clarity after explant surgery fueled the writing of The Year of the Rebirth
• Getting confirmation of the #1 podcast ranking, and what "choosing healing ways" actually means
• Why faith isn't "I'm healed, so now I build" — it's "I'm healing, and I'm building anyway"
If you've ever felt like you had to wait until you were fully healed to start building the thing you're called to do, this episode is proof that you don't.
In This Episode
• Grounding practice — "I choose my healing ways, not because I'm healed, but because I'm healing."
• The altar moment at 50 — hearing "do daily shows" and fear's immediate no
• What BII actually is — chronic fatigue, brain fog, autoimmune symptoms hidden for 20+ years
• Three years building the podcast — while sick, while foggy, while caregiving for her mother
• The decision to explant — identity, grief, and choosing herself
• Recovery, real and ongoing — rebuilding a relationship with her physical self
• The unexpected clarity — and how it became The Year of the Rebirth album
• The #1 ranking — confirmation this past week on the Million Podcast list
• What faith while healing really means — building anyway, every single day
• Closing affirmations — "My challenges don't disqualify me. They qualify me."

Your Fear Inventory: What Happened When Fear Showed Up While I Was Teaching About It
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Monday morning, I sat down to record about fear — your guardian, real danger versus imagined danger — and fear showed up so loud I couldn't finish. My shoulders tightened, my throat closed, my breath got shallow, and I heard my guardian say: if you teach this, people will see you're scared and won't believe you. So I stopped recording and went to my altar for answers.
In this episode, I'm sharing exactly what happened next — the three cards that fell out when I shuffled and prayed, and the three exercises they revealed: stopping assumptions to make your word impeccable, understanding that your words are spells you cast on yourself and others, and the freeing truth that everyone is living in their own dream. I close with a real, unscripted fear inventory and a master commitment I want you to write and say out loud with me. This is Season 5 in action — not teaching from a safe distance, but teaching while living it.
We talk about:
• What happened when fear showed up mid-recording and why I had to stop
• The three-card message from my altar (Four Agreements cards, chakra cards, and prayer)
• Exercise 1: Stopping assumptions to make your word impeccable
• Exercise 2: Your word as a spell — what fear was saying to me, and the spell I chose instead
• Exercise 3: Everyone is in their own dream — releasing the fear of judgment
• The fear inventory exercise, from your real, current place — not theory
• The master commitment: "I will not let fear silence me"
If you've ever frozen up right when you were about to teach, lead, or show up as yourself, this episode is proof that showing up scared and doing it anyway is the real work.
In This Episode
• Grounding practice — "My word is my power. Fear tried to silence me, but I speak anyway."
• What happened Monday morning — fear showing up in real time while recording
• The altar moment — three cards, three messages
• Exercise 1: Stop the assumptions, make your word impeccable
• Exercise 2: Your word is a spell — naming fear's spell and choosing your own
• Exercise 3: People are in their own dream — releasing the fear of judgment
• Fear inventory — bracing, assumptions, spells, and what you choose instead
• The master commitment — "Starting today, I speak."
• Closing affirmations — "I cast my own spell. I am reclaimed. I am unashamed. I am unstoppable."

Fear as Survival: When Protection Becomes a Prison (Faith vs. Fear, Part 1)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
Fear isn't the problem — your body needs fear. It's kept you alive since the day you were born. But what happens when fear stops protecting you and starts controlling you? That's when protection becomes a prison. This month, we're breaking free.
In this episode, I kick off September's series, Faith vs. Fear, by breaking down exactly how fear works inside you: the internal "guardian" whose only job is danger-protect, why it can't tell the difference between a real threat and an imagined one, and how your past becomes your present through pattern matching. I get personal about how this shows up for me right now — heading into a new chapter, a new birthday, new people, new opportunities — and why living in constant protection mode leaves you exhausted, defended, and unable to rest, trust, connect, or feel joy. The good news: your guardian learned fear, which means it can learn safety too. That's September's work.
We talk about:
• Why fear is a survival mechanism, not a weakness
• Real danger vs. imagined danger, and why your body responds to both the same way
• How your "internal guardian" records past hurt and scans for matching patterns
• Why fear becomes your default after real betrayal or trauma
• The cost of living in survival mode — and why you can't rest, trust, or feel joy there
• How to start teaching your guardian safety
• What's ahead this month: recognizing triggers, rewiring through repetition, and building evidence of safety
If you've ever wondered why you're always scanning for danger even when you're safe, this episode explains exactly what's happening in your body — and how to start changing it.
In This Episode
• Grounding practice — "Fear, I see you. I take back my power."
• Fear as a survival mechanism — why your body needs it
• Meet your internal guardian — the alarm system with one job: danger, protect
• Real danger vs. imagined danger — why your body can't tell the difference
• How your past becomes your present — pattern matching and triggered guardians
• The cost of living in protection mode — can't rest, trust, connect, or feel joy
• Sponsor break — Elevate Me's Labor Day Sale
• Teaching your guardian safety — why it takes consistency and repetition
• This month's roadmap — recognizing triggers, rewiring, building evidence of safety
• Closing affirmations — "I don't live in survival mode anymore. I choose faith."

When Fear Returns: The Real Practice Begins (Tools for When Fear Comes Back)
💬 Got something to share? Text or voice note me (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2628501/fan_mail/new)
On Monday, I told you fear came back — loud. Today I'm giving you the actual tools for what to do when that happens, because fear will return. That's not the problem. What you do with it is everything.
In this episode, I walk you through the exact practice I used this week to move through fear instead of bypassing it: how to recognize fear's return, how to meditate with intention instead of just checking a box, a three-day feeling journal with prompts to get underneath fear's story, and the "three-try commitment" — using my candle that took three tries to light as a metaphor for trying anyway. I also open the door into September's theme: faith versus fear, and give you the reflection questions to start preparing now.
We talk about:
• Why fear returning isn't failure — unconsciousness is
• How to recognize the signs: drained energy, doubt, numbness, feeling stuck
• A 5-step process for naming, tracing, and writing through fear as it shows up
• Meditating with intention: what to ask before, during, and after
